Aussie Backyard Bird Count plus Homework plus reminders

Dear Parents

AUSSIE BIRD COUNT

Monday 22nd October till Sunday 28th October is when the nationwide Aussie Backyard Bird Count is happening. We are doing this as a class each day that I am here Monday to Thursday. As part of homework I would like your child to do  one or more counts of the birds they see with adult assistance and to enter the data either on computer or a suitable smart phone. If you go to the website you are able to register. If you look at Frequently asked Questions Page it will answer most questions. I have provided students with a recording sheet plus a laminated sheet with the names and pictures of the birds you are likely to see in the Mitcham Area. The laminated sheet needs to come back to school each day but can go home each day.

BASIC INFORMATION

Observe for a strict twenty minutes in the same location approximately in an area of  80 metres by 100 metres. You can vary the location in which you observe and count. You can do more than one observation a day. It does not need to be your backyard. It could be a park nearby. Early in the morning or late afternoon are the best times for this but it can be done at any time during daylight hours. Record your information online afterwards. It can be done the day after.

HOMEWORK

Word Study needs to be completed for homework each week. Reading regularly at home is encouraged. In class students are revising tables that they are less familiar with. This is to be done as part of homework each night for 5-10 minutes.

Reminders

Water safety swimming program at the Unley Pool next week. Keep the notes coming in.

Have a good week.

Regards

Des Norman
